Title: Group: Standardize Bumi Status

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/11/2/nation/5022547&sec=nation

Summary:
There are 3 definitions of bumiputra in Peninsula Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. Under the federation constitution, child born in peninsula would be bumiputra as long as one of the parents is bumiputra. For Sabah, a child is bumiputra if his or her father is a bumiputra. However at Sarawak,a child in Sarawak can be bumiputra if both of the parents are bumiputra.STU president William Abdul Ghani wants this issue to be rectified, they want this to be standardise as peninsula. He emphasize that the basis should be race but not religion.
Ghani also comment on several Sarawakian students who are not able to enter matriculation due to their mixed parental but not bumiputra.

Comments:
According to this article, this issue is actually falls under Public law where the administrative of the government towards bumiputra issues. In my opinion, I think bumiputra status in Malaysia should be standardized. This is because the fairness towards all of the Malaysians no matter single parents, only the father or both parents are bumiputra, the blood of the bumiputras' still flows in their body. I think all bumiputra should receive the same privilege instead of having the different method of distributing bumiputra into 3 different definitions.
